Known in Thai as Yant Ha (ยันต์ห้า), also called the Five Buddha Yant, this is an ancient yant with a long history. It is said to come from the lineage of Luang Phor Sakorn (หลวงพ่อสาคร), and in Thailand it is regarded as the teacher's yant of this lineage; it also appears on Luang Phor Sakorn's amulets.
The five points of the star carry the five syllables นะ โม พุท ธา ยะ (Na Mo Phut Tha Ya), representing the Five Buddhas of this eon: Kakusandha, Konagamana, Kassapa, Gautama and the future Buddha Maitreya. The Five Buddhas guard the four directions and the centre, symbolising complete protection, which is why many Thai monks inscribe this yant on the back of their amulets as the mark of their lineage.
In traditional belief this yant signifies drawing on the Five Buddhas to welcome good fortune, avoid misfortune and move forward safely, as well as attracting blessings and good connections. Despite the similar name, it is different from the Five Lines Yant: the Five Star Yant is a star formed from the names of the Five Buddhas.
