How to choose a sak yant

Seven steps to a blessing that is yours

First sak yant? From meaning and size to the blessing, take it one step at a time. There is no rush.

Where do I start?

"How much is it?"

This is usually the first question we hear, and that is perfectly normal.

But just as a drink and a full dinner cost different amounts at a restaurant, a sak yant depends on the design, the size and the arrangements. Once we understand these, we can share the right offering (供金) for you.

You do not need to know which design you want yet. We can start with a few simple questions:

  1. What kind of blessing are you hoping for?
  2. How large a design are you comfortable with?
  3. Do you have a budget in mind, or any concerns about the process?

Start with the meaning, then narrow it down

You do not need to know the name of every yant. Start from your own life right now, and think about where you would like support and a reminder. For example:

  • Wealth and career: to seize opportunities and work with more direction.
  • Charm and relationships: to get along better and build stronger connections.
  • Safety and protection: a sense of calm for everyday life.
  • Wisdom and growth: a reminder to see more clearly and make better choices.

If you have no particular direction, you can start with an all-round design such as the Five Lines.

Your first time: no need to push yourself

Size, placement, budget and how comfortable you are with the process can all be considered together.

Your first sak yant does not have to be the smallest. But there is also no need to accept a large design just to "get it all done at once".

Choose a size you like and are comfortable with, then ask us about the expected time and arrangements. Some people prefer to start small; others know exactly what they want from the start. Both are fine.

How it feels depends on the person, the placement and the design, so there is no need to compare yourself with others.

Doesn't the master decide for me?

Traditionally, the master chooses the sak yant based on each person. But rather than leaving it all to him, Arjan Nit would like you to first think: what do I need most right now?

The master can see your long-term direction, while you know your present needs best. So you can:

  1. Choose the direction of the blessing first
  2. Then choose a design and size you are comfortable with
  3. Let the master arrange the right scripts and yant, with colour adjustments for some designs

Even with the same design, the details can differ from person to person. The master sometimes adds small adjustments so it suits you better.

Similar meanings, so why different sizes?

Even for the same blessing, such as safety or charm, different designs can hold different scripts, yant and layers of blessing.

Think of a sak yant as a cup that holds a blessing.

A small cup is delicate and holds one focused intention. A large cup has more room for richer content and more layers.

Larger designs usually take more time, patience and commitment. Like many things worth treasuring in life, they are completed through effort, and part of their weight is the journey you went through yourself.

A small design may hold less, but choosing to carry a blessing for life is never a light decision. It carries your own story and wishes too. It may not take much space, but it still holds the blessing the master gave you in person.

How to understand the blessing

Continuing the cup and water idea: the sak yant is the cup, and the blessing is like the master pouring water into it, carrying his blessing and the wish you chose.

The more blessing it holds, the more kindness your heart needs to hold it steady. Like water in a cup, the calmer and kinder the heart, the steadier the water. This is not about being stiff and careful all the time, but letting the blessing remind you to do good every day.

Do I have to come back regularly for a re-blessing?

No need to treat it as homework, and no need to worry that it will "stop working" if you do not come back.

A re-blessing is like topping up the cup. It can be a time to renew your wishes, or to come back with gratitude and reconnect with the master. Not out of fear of losing the blessing, but because you value what it means to you.

Guidelines are reminders, not chains

Different masters and lineages have their own rules. There is no need to apply every taboo you have seen online to yourself. You are here to take a blessing home, not a set of chains.

What Arjan Nit values most comes down to three things:

  1. Keep a kind heart
  2. Respect your parents and those who have helped you
  3. Know gratitude and give thanks

He hopes you carry this blessing into everyday kindness and pass the good fortune on to others. Every kindness and every sincere act of help carries the blessing forward.
