Known in Thai as Yant Kochasarn (ยันต์คชสาร), its name uses a classical Thai word for the elephant. The design is tattooed as a pair on both legs: each knee becomes the elephant's forehead, the trunk flows down the shin and the body is filled with sacred script, mirrored on each side. It can also be done on one leg only. Most of Arjan Nit's yants are placed above the waist, and very few of his designs can go below it, which makes this elephant yant truly rare and special.
Since ancient times Thailand has regarded the elephant as a symbol of royal power and the nation. Kings rode elephants into battle, and the white elephant was seen as a sign of a wise ruler and a flourishing kingdom, so in Thailand the elephant stands for nobility, courage and authority.
In Thai sak yant tradition the elephant also symbolises wisdom, strength, patience and confidence. In traditional belief this yant signifies breaking through obstacles, adding presence and charm, and bringing good fortune. Unlike the wisdom-focused Ganesha, this elephant yant centres on majesty and strength.
